Dr. Nancee Hunter is a Senior Researcher at our center, and also serves as adjunct faculty in the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences. Prior to coming to the STEM Research Center in January 2016, Nancee Hunter completed a doctoral program in Environmental Sciences and Geography at Portland State University and served as the Director of Education for Oregon Sea Grant at Oregon State University. In this role, she oversaw the Hatfield Marine Science Center’s Visitor Center and K-12 education programming.

Nancee has extensive experience creating, researching, and coordinating STEM education programs and building partnerships that support both formal and informal STEM learners and educators. She has served on numerous leadership teams in the state and region over the course of her career and has established award-winning partnerships with universities, science centers, museums, field educators, and many other groups across the country and region. Before coming to Oregon State University, Nancee was the Director of Education at the National Geographic Society in Washington DC, where she was responsible for technology initiatives, curriculum development, professional development, and signature education outreach programs.

Nancee has particular expertise establishing best practices in professional development. Much of her career has been spent understanding what motivates individuals to pursue professional growth and in turn, what types of programming works best for different learners with varying attitudes, personal backgrounds and rationale for participation. A recent example is her doctoral dissertation which assesses multifaceted learning outcomes from experiential professional development.
