A key project outcome is to develop and support a faculty Community of Practice (CoP). Our research activities will be iteratively and successively informed by the CoP. As key stakeholders, members of the CoP will help translate research into practice and serve as an early audience for applying our findings.
Starting in the fall of 2022, we will host four virtual events open to all who are interested to foster discussion about the development of sense of belonging in undergraduate field courses. Faculty will then be invited to apply to be a part of the community of practice in the spring of 2023 to early 2024. Twenty-five faculty will be selected to represent a diversity of student populations served, disciplines, and field course format.
The Community of Practice will be:
Guided by the question “what promising practices are useful to faculty for developing students’ sense of belonging within undergraduate field courses?”
Recruited from the community of undergraduate field educators through the UFERN, OBFS, NAML, and NAGT listservs
Selected to reflect a diverse range of students served, disciplines, and course formats
Guided by a steering committee that includes advisors Dr. Erin Shortlidge and Dr. Chris Lorentz
Focused around the goal of co-creating a suite of promising practices for supporting a sense of belonging in undergraduate field courses
